2014/ clay, glaze, cord
This pot is inspired by a vessel from the Jomon period of Japan in 2000 BCE. The main technique is the use of coiling on the Jomon vessel. There is no coiling ornament on the pot I made, but with holes on the posts which sit on the rim of the pot allowing ropes to go through and become the ornament of the pot. As Jomon period people did on the vessel, using clay coiling as ornament, I tried to apply different interpretations of rope ornament on the pot from a different aspect that shows a viewpoint from the present looking into to the past. Also, the rope ornament on the pot is an added new interpretation as an interaction and a conversation I had with the pot during the process of reshaping the Jomon period vessel.
